Hyundai Oilbank First entered the dil refining market in 1993 when it acquired the nation's first private oil refining Company, Kukdong Oil Refining. Established in 1964. Hyundai Oilbank has become a market contender by successfully attracting the US$500 million investment from IPIC of the UAE in 1999.

As of 2006, Hyundai Oilbank posted a 20%, share of the light fuel oil market as well as sales revenue of KRW9.17 trillion, and a daily production capacity of 390,000 barrels. The company has directed considerable effort towards certical conglomeration within the petroleum industry, and has become Korea's leading oil refining and marketing company by acquiring the nation’s highest percentage of advance oil refinery facilities (30%) and expanding the reformer plant to an annual capacity of 1,570ktons.
